Travelling with Pets

Have you ever considered taking your dog along with you on your annual vacation? How much fun would THAT be? An experience the whole family can enjoy, including Spot, is what many people are choosing to do today. More and more hotels, resorts and timeshares are opening up to pets and making it more convenient than ever to bring your dog along. You could probably bring your cat, too, but I don’t think they'd appreciate it as much!

If you want to go to the beach this year, there's no reason why Spot can't go. There are dog-friendly beaches throughout the US, including California and Florida.

If you enjoy camping, there is an adventure camping club you could join to get discounts for you and your dog at CampingPet.com . It's not just campgrounds, they include cabins and B&Bs too.

Flying with Pets

Now, I've only ever flown with my little carry-on-sized dog, but pretty much any pet can be flown in an airplane. There are weight and size restrictions as to what pets can fly in the cabin, and normally they must be kept in a carrier under the seat in front of you. Fees for flying can vary by airline, but are now around $100 each way. Whether you fly with your pet in the cabin or down below, make sure to have your pet and it's carrier clearly marked with identification, and provide it with food. If your dog gets anxious, there are calming pills you can purchase at most pet supplies stores. They will NOT knock your pet out, simply calm him down a bit.

International Travel

If you're planning on travelling internationally, and you want to bring your dog, it is a little more complicated. Every country has it's own rules, and some even put animals through quarantine, so unless you're going for an extended amount of time, it may not be worth the hassle, cost and stress of bringing the family pet.
