Today, the commercial pet food industry is booming. With the people becoming more and more conscious of the need of a balanced diet for their pets, the market for pet food has grown by leaps and bounds. The pet stores and super markets are replete with a multitude of commercial pet foods.
Pet food is food for the pets. It is usually specific to the type of pets. Thus there are cat food, dog food, fish food etc. Each type of food caters to the dietary requirement of the pet it is made for. Further the pet food is convenient and cost effective. Most of these foods are ready to eat and can be dished out as such to the pets. Frozen raw food is available off the counter that can be further cooked or served raw. Special pet foods are also available in the market to meet the specific requirements of various pets. There is low calorie diet food available for the pets that are overweight. For the health conscious owners there are pet foods with natural ingredients and for the sick pets there are special diet foods. Because of this many people prefer pet food to homemade food.
With the increase in demand for pet food, the pet food industry has become more and more specialized. There are guidelines set down by the various government agencies which the manufacturers have to adhere to. They set standards about what the pet food must contain so that these foods will provide wholesome nutrition for the pets. The manufacturers therefore keep in mind the dietary requirements of each pet while making the pet food. They also take care to exclude those ingredients which might cause allergy to the pets. The pet food industry therefore upholds the standards of quality of pet food making it safe for pets and providing them the needed nutrition.
